Broth Bowls by Panera, Eating Out on Meatless Monday
We all lead busy lives. Sometimes, there just isn’t time to cook. Thankfully, there are a lot of tasty and healthy choices available if you have to grab a meal on the run. Even for Meatless Monday. A recent addition to the “fast casual” fare available are Broth Bowls from Panera. Since the broth is miso, it’s soy based. Meatless! And you can choose among many meatless and vegan ingredients customize your bowl.
Broth Bowls from Panera
I went with the Soba Noodle Broth Bowl with Edamame. Panera describes this on their menu:
Soba buckwheat noodles, fresh spinach, napa cabbage blend, roasted mushroom and onion blend, fire roasted edamame blend, sesame seeds and cilantro in our umami soy-miso broth.
Very delicious! You can add a small side salad if you’re really hungry. But, the Broth Bowl is a generous serving. It’s already loaded with vegetables, too. It’s just 370 calories, with 12 grams of fat, 17 grams of protein, 52 grams of carbohydrates, and 7 grams of fiber. Like most restaurant fare, it IS high in sodium, with 1340mg per serving.
Another meatless choice of Broth Bowl is Lentil Quinoa Bowl with Cage Free Egg.
Organic quinoa and organic brown rice, lentil blend, tomato sofrito, fresh kale and spinach in our umami soy-miso broth topped with a hard-boiled cage-free egg and lemon wheel.
Again, the portions are generous. And the ingredients are high quality and nutritious. This version comes in at 380 calories. It has 17 grams of protein, 51 grams of carbohydrates, 7 grams of fiber and 13 grams of fat. Again, the sodium content is high, with 1310mg a serving.If you’re enjoying these occasionally, the sodium content shouldn’t be a problem.
At under $10, it’s a terrific value, too. Kudos to Panera for this welcome addition to casual dining. With the Broth Bowl, it just got a little easier to stay the course on your Meatless Monday.
