About The Pet Matchmaker

Welcome to The Pet Matchmaker! Our mission is simple: to celebrate and inspire the rescue, foster and adoption of homeless pets everywhere.

Our public shelter system is overcrowded and underfunded. Millions of homeless pets are euthanized every year. The Pet Matchmaker knows that a large cottage industry of rescue exists to fill the gap where our public system of animal shelters falters and fails. There are many pet rescue nonprofits that help to fill the breach. And they’re not all for homeless dogs and cats. There are rescues for every kind of homeless pet, including horses, chickens, rabbits, turtles and guinea pigs!

Beyond the formal pet rescue organizations, there are countless “mom & pop” organizations that work to rescue, foster and adopt homeless pets. These are the people who do the day to day work of helping to solve the epidemic of homeless pets in our nation. They open their hearts and their wallets every single day. Many foster multiple pets at a time. They use their social media to network these pets to get them adopted into their forever homes.
The Pet Matchmaker celebrates these foot soldiers of the pet rescue world. Their stories can inspire all of us to be part of the solution to homeless pets.

Introduction

  • Elaine Hendrix
    Elaine Hendrix Founder

Elaine Hendrix is an award-winning actress and animal advocate who, in addition to her 100+ acting credits, has a full-time second career rescuing, adopting, volunteering, lobbying, protesting, speaking, writing, building habitats and more, all on behalf of animals, everywhere. She is from East Tennessee and currently lives in Los Angeles, CA with her rescue dogs, canines: Rossmore and Ellie and felines: Kimbo and Goodie Cornbread.

Hello. I’m Elaine Hendrix, aka The Pet Matchmaker. It’s my great honor to be in animal advocacy for over a decade. After I made what I call the “fortunate mistake” of watching an undercover fur video, it changed my life forever. I travel all over the world. I have discovered that – much like myself before that video – people love animals, but have no idea what is actually happening to them.

Even if people who do understand the challenges animals face, often they have no idea how to help.

As The Pet Matchmaker, it’s my goal to be part of the solution to that problem.

To that end, an incredible team of people joined me in creating this site to inspire and celebrate the foster, rescue and adoption of homeless pets, everywhere.

A little inspiration makes a big difference! If you’ve already got a rescue pet, we’ve got stories that celebrate people just like you. If you’re thinking of getting involved in rescue, foster or adoption, we want to inspire you! So come on in, poke around. Visit regularly. We update pages often. I’m thrilled to share this journey with you!

Creating happily ever after…one pet at a time,

Elaine Hendrix, The Pet Matchmaker
